Nerve Diseases

  • Bell’s Palsy     A viral infection is usually the cause of paralysis of half the face. After the paralysis has stabilized, scalp acupuncture treatment can improve the ability to smile, chew, and close the eyelid, which prevents eye damage. Two studies from China have shown significant improvement with treating the scalp area that overlies the motor area of the brain. A large number of patients had full recovery.
  • Motor Neuron Diseases     The weakness that presents with such conditions as ALS, PMA, Lou Gehrig’s, PLS, and polio can respond to scalp acupuncture.  Treatments can reduce muscle spasms and pain.
  • Phantom Limb Pain, Complex Regional Pain, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), all have their origin in the central nervous system and can respond well to scalp acupuncture. Residual paralysis from viral infections or Guillain-Barre syndrome can also be treated well.
  •  Other conditions that can be addressed with scalp acupuncture are restless leg syndrome (RLS), fibromyalgia, pain from herpes zoster or post-herpetic neuralgia, peripheral neuropathies, plantar fasciitis and heel pain, aphasia, Meniere’s, vertigo, tinnitus, hearing loss, PTSD, post-concussion syndrome, chorea, ataxia, and essential tremor.
